Two More Plead Guilty In Hillcrest Hate Crime
June 7, 1995
After watching one defendant's mother testify for the prosecution in a preliminary hearing, two men have pleaded guilty to committing a hate crime when they beat and kicked a gay man in Hillcrest.
The pleas came after a week's recess in the preliminary hearing for Leonard Schweitzer, 22, of Alpine, and James Delong, 20, of Santee, who were also charged with conspiracy in the March 24 incident.
Deputy District Attorney Teresa Santana said both men could each receive ten years in state prison and a $10,000 fine. Delong additionally pleaded guilty to conspiracy, but that charge was dropped against Schweitzer.
