Gay Haven On Halsted Not Immune To Violence

Twenty years ago the huge picture windows at the front of Cocktail, a North Halsted bar, might have been tinted black so passersby couldn't see who was inside, said bartender John Russell. But this is a new era. Marcos Rivera, a thin, silver-haired man who was punched in the face by a gay-basher 15 years ago as he walked down North Halsted, sat framed to the world in the bar's front window as he drank with two other men.
