A gay activist and health care worker has been murdered in Mexico, with international human rights groups warning that his partner and fellow protesters could also be in danger.
Octavio Acuña was found bleeding from multiple stab wounds on June 21, 2005. He was well known in the city of Querétaro for his work in promoting health issues and sexual awareness. He also ran a condom shop in the city and called for more rights for lesbian and gay people.
According to Amnesty International (AI), Acuña had been subjected to violence before. His shop had been broken into and vandalized on two occasions.
